Hey everyone, Nick here from GotBeez!
We were recently called back to a beautiful property in Lighthouse Point, Florida, and it was one of those jobs that really reminds you of the unique relationship we have with our local ecosystem—and our customers!
This isn’t the first time we’ve visited this home, and there’s a reason for that. Bees are incredibly smart, and when they find a spot that offers great shelter and protection, they tend to use it again and again. This time, a thriving new colony had set up shop behind a fence and planter wall—a very cozy, but very inconvenient, location for the homeowner.
When a homeowner calls us with a bee problem in Broward County, the first thing we emphasize is: Please, do not spray them!
Our mission at GotBeez is simple: protect your family and property while protecting these vital pollinators. That means we specialize in live bee removal—the humane process of relocating the entire colony, including the queen, to our safe apiary (bee farm).
Here’s a quick look at how we handled this Lighthouse Point job:
Careful Access: To ensure the safety of the colony and prevent structural damage, we carefully opened up the area of the fence and planter wall where the bees had built their hive. We needed full access to ensure we removed all the comb.
The Honeycomb Harvest: Once inside, we started to see the payoff! The bees had built several massive sections of honeycomb, full of honey, pollen, and brood (baby bees). We gently cut out each piece of comb and secured it right into a temporary GotBeez Hive Box.
Finding the Queen: The most critical part of any removal is securing the queen. Once she’s safely in the new box, the rest of the worker bees will naturally follow her pheromone scent—it’s nature’s way of ensuring the colony stays together.
Relocation to Safety: With the entire colony—from the new workers to the queen—safely inside our box, we sealed the area, made sure no bees were left behind, and packed up for the final trip back to our GotBeez Apiary in South Florida. They’ll have a safe, quiet place to thrive, pollinate, and continue making the world a better place!
If you kill the bees with pesticides but leave the hive structure behind (the honeycomb), you’re just creating new problems:
Pest Attraction: The dead bees and the leftover honey/brood will attract ants, rodents, and other serious pests.
Melting Honey: In the Florida heat, the honey will melt, potentially seeping through walls, causing structural damage, and creating a mess that is even harder to clean up.
Future Bees: The scent of the old hive will attract new swarms to the exact same spot next season, just like what happened at our repeat customer’s home!
When we perform a full live removal, we take out the entire hive, clean the area, and can even offer solutions to prevent future infestations in that spot.

Not at this moment, only bees.
Rarely but it can happen.
No, but the state encourages live bee relocation. We do NOT exterminate, we will safely remove the live bees from your property and relocate them to our bee farm.
Most jobs take 2–4 hours, depending on hive size and location. Small swarms may take 1 hour; large wall infestations (with honeycomb cleanup) can take up to 6 hours. We work efficiently to minimize disruption to your home or business.
Absolutely. We use non-toxic, eco-friendly methods and seal off work areas during removal. Pets and kids can stay indoors, and we’ll notify you when it’s safe to return outdoors.
Avoid the area for 24 hours (bees may linger briefly).
